APIP DSM-5

Briefing and Objectives

The Portuguese Association of Psychiatry Interns (APIP) once again entrusted our team with developing the visual identity for the Diálogos Sobre a Mente (DSM-5) project. This well-established project returns with a new edition and a refreshed visual language suitable for digital times.

Diálogos Sobre a Mente (DSM-5) is a free educational offering aimed at all psychiatry interns, consisting of live webinar cycles. These events are designed to address various topics and foster discussion in the field of Psychiatry, led by experts in the subjects covered.

In this edition, the project expands with a subproject called DSM-5-TR, which includes real-life testimonies from more experienced interns and experts on practical topics of interest to interns.

The main objectives of the project were:

  • Develop a visual language distinct from previous editions.
  • Include specific variations for the DSM-5-TR subproject.
  • Use a less neutral visual approach.
  • Integrate images that clearly convey the project’s purpose.
  • Adapt the visual language primarily for digital media.

Project Deliverables

For DSM-5 and DSM-5-TR, the following deliverables were developed:

  • Poster for DSM-5 and DSM-5-TR: Visual differentiation while maintaining a common base for both projects.
  • Application examples: Including project presentation materials such as posts, stories for social media, newsletters, website images, among others to be defined.

Research and Inspiration Process

We started the project with an analysis of the graphic materials from previous editions and research on similar digital events, such as webinars and health podcasts. This research helped us identify best practices and inspire the new visual language.

Visual Language Development

Our approach focused on creating a visual identity that was:

  • Modern and Attractive: Using vibrant colors and graphic elements that capture attention.
  • Clear and Intuitive: Ensuring that information about webinars and testimonies is easily understandable.
  • Cohesive but Adaptable: Maintaining visual cohesion between DSM-5 and DSM-5-TR while highlighting each one’s unique aspects.

Results

The final result is a visual identity that reflects the seriousness and importance of the topics covered while being accessible and appealing to the target audience. Through posters, social media elements, newsletters, and other digital communication forms, we effectively conveyed the mission of DSM-5 and DSM-5-TR.

With this project, we reinforced our ongoing partnership with APIP, providing a visual identity that enhances the educational value of DSM-5. The new visual language not only distinguishes this edition from previous ones but also highlights the importance of discussions about the mind in the training of psychiatry interns.
